GOTYA 3D Printed Awards
Earlier this year, Imaginables and XYZ Workshop assisted the Design Institute of Australia to create a unique 3D-Printed Award for their Graduate of the Year 2015.
The Graduate of the Year Award [GOTYA] is a portfolio based Design Institute of Australia program that rewards the highest standards of excellence in final year undergraduate design students or recent graduates. Categories awarded are Industrial Design, Interior Design, Interior Decoration, Graphic Design, Fashion Design and Jewellery Design.
Educators in each state are invited annually to nominate their top design students to State level GOTYA programs, with each student submitting three different studio projects prior to attending an interview with judges.
Designer Kae Woei, who designed the Awards for the talented graduates explained "We worked within the design brief and the budget allocated to us to create the awards. The design blended a unique typography that expressed a sort of resonance emanating from the text."
"I wanted to design a trophy that seem to defy gravity. The lean in the trophies was achieved by carefully playing with the infill to offset the object's centre of gravity" Kae Woei explained.
The awards were printed on our Ultimaker 2 in a vibrant Magenta PLA which was then fitted with an engraved name plate. "I think the addition of the engraved plates really helped finished the overall look of the awards" commented Kae Woei.
DIA were very happy with the awards and has invited us to do next year's awards.
